More room than any truck/suv, with handling and mileage of a sedan. What I like: Stow n go, lots of storage, roomy comfortable, decent on gas (27mpg hwy, 18.5 combined). Well thought out interior. Chrysler seems to have addressed a lot of the previous gens chronic mechanical issues (transmissions, sway bar bushings, etc), though it seems to have been at the expense of attention to detail. What I dont like: Cheap feel compared to my old 97, though better than the 2010 I used on loan. The pass. side power door stopped working (broken wire, easy fix, see youtube). The key fob stopped working. The airbag light is on for some reason, and OMG the rust is an up hill battle.

  • Good Van - 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

Have owned 2 other Dodge vans this one is the best yet. Handles better and seems to be a sturdier vehicle. Audio controls on steering wheel a good safety/convenience feature. Good ride. Be careful however, the exhaust pipe runs just under passenger side slider, easy for child to reach for dropped toy and get burned.

A couple of things with the interior design are irritating. Window and door lock controls are not back-lit. You cant see them at night. Ditto for the steering wheel controls for radio and cruise control. You cant see the hood release and parking brake release at night. Also, theres too much clutter on the radio and A/C panels. Just too many buttons. Power seats do not lower enough. Ive bumped my head many times getting in and out of the car. And the leather seats are not that comfortable. Mileage on a round trip to Arizona settled in on about 24.5 mpg. Of course this was at speeds between 70 and 75.

  • Brakes, Oil, and front end - 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

This car has been useful to us. The stow and go appeal is practical for our family of five. Its utility cannot be denied. I have replaced the front rotors at 30k, and at 50k, and we now have to watch the oil level as it will creep to the minimum "add a quart" line on the dipstick just prior to reaching 3k on the oil & filter change. Tie Rods and steering assembly failures are not uncommon amongst our circle of friends who own them. So, good design, some cheap parts in the front assembly and brake rotors make these problems prolific in this model. If you know that and understand it going in, youll be fine.

  • Special Edition: A Very Nice Car - 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan
    By -

I really like my 2005 Grand Caravan Special Edition. It is very comfortable on long trips and local short trips. Weve purchased the full mechanical system maintenance and havent used it at all even with four plus years of service. The things that I like about it are the stow-and- go since I filled the car several times with 4x8 sheets of plywood, and I didnt have to remove any seats; just stow them. The air conditioning, power, and quiet running are tops. The car came with manual cabin temp control which i dont like. I am still fond of the Grand Caravan but ready to sell after 46000 miles.

This is my 3rd van and 1st Grand Caravan. What a wonderful ride, great value for all the extras and a great warranty too. I wish I would have known about this line of minivans a long time ago!

A very versatile, comfortable to drive car. My second car is a BMW 330i. We use the Van far more. More comfortable to drive, more convenient. Reliability has been good through 38,000 miles, but I guess we will see. For a person with a family, this is a nice vehicle. Plenty of power, quiet ands smooth, good visibility, controls well placed. The stow and go seating is great and the electric doors as well.

  • Pretty decent vehicle - 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

The most trouble ive had with this vehicle is with the reliability of it. Ive been to the service department about 4 times because suddenly the front suspension made an ugly deep, vibrating noise when the steering wheel was turned left or right. They somewhat improved the problem, but it still makes that noise every now and then. The transaxle makes a high pitched noise that sounds like a cricket chirping, and i was told that there was nothing that could be done about it. Other than that, I think that this a good buy for the price.

The Stow and Go seating is fantastic. Luggage space is excellent. DVD player is good. Performace needs to be enhanced. Gas mileage also needs to be improved. Chrysler Corp makes the best of usable space.
